Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary celebrates the Catholic teaching that Mary was assumed into heaven, body, and soul. She received this gift of grace as a consequence of her Immaculate Conception which teaches that she was without sin (immaculate) from the first moment of her life at conception in the womb of her mother, Saint Anne. Therefore she was not subject to the corruption due to sin; and was assumed into heaven. This gives her special honor and privilege as also we hope to follow her into the Kingdom that Jesus has prepared for us. To celebrate this solemn feast in union with the entire Church in heaven and on earth, all Catholics are obligated to attend Mass for this Holy Day.
